Sumant Sinha
Sumant Sinha is currently the Chief Operating Officer of Suzlon Energy, the world's fourth largest wind turbine manufacturer.
Prior to joining Suzlon, Sumant was the CEO of Aditya Birla Retail. Under his leadership ABRL became India’s third largest retailer with over 600 supermarkets and 2 Hypermarkets across India. ABRL managed over 1.6 million sq ft of space, and employed over 12,000 people. From 2002 to 2007, Sumant was the Group CFO of the Aditya Birla Group. During his watch as CFO, the Aditya Birla Group made some of the largest acquisitions such as Ultratech Cement, Idea Cellular, and Novelis which at $6 billion, is the second largest cross-border acquisition ever by any Indian company.
Sumant was a National Talent Scholar, has a B.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology, an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management and a masters from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. He started his career with the Tata Administrative Service, then moved on to Citicorp Securities in New York and London. Mr. Sinha also worked at ING Barings in New York where he was Managing Director responsible for the firm’s debt business for Latin America.
Mr. Sinha is a Chartered Financial Analyst and is on the National Council of the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), and is currently Chairman of the Renewable Energy Committee of CII.
