Mr. Tulsi R. Tanti, Founder and Chairman & Managing Director of Suzlon Energy Limited, has led the group to unparalleled heights. Under his leadership, Suzlon today ranks as the third leading wind energy group in the world with 12.3% of global market share, and revenues of over US$ 5 billion in the financial year 2008-09 and extending its presence across 21 countries on five continents

The journey began with Mr. Tulsi Tanti’s venture into the world business with a textile venture in Gujarat, a state on the western coast of India with a heritage of entrepreneurial spirit. In 1994, at the helm of a young and growing business he was faced with escalating power costs that were hitting his operations. With a background in Commerce and Engineering, he found the answer in wind energy as the most economic and sustainable power solution.

He set up two wind turbines to supply electricity for his textile unit in Gujarat. As his textile business flourished on sustainable power supplies, he recognized the potential wind energy offered, and led to the creation of Suzlon Energy Limited in 1995, and in just 14 years ranks among the world’s leaders in wind energy.

Building alongside commercial success, Mr. Tanti has set forth a goal for Suzlon of not just being a successful wind energy company, but also a socially responsible enterprise with sustainable development at the core of the business. His commitment to social and ecological development, and his vocal advocacy of climate change mitigation has been honored numerous awards including ‘Champion of the Earth 2009’ by the United Nations Environment Program, ‘Hero of the Environment’ by TIME Magazine, ‘Entrepreneur of the Year 2006’ by Ernst & Young among several others.
