The Indian aerospace and security ecosystem, though at a nascent stage, has immense potential in the coming decade. The commercial aviation market is identified at $100 Billion in the next 20 years and the defence market amounts to $31 billion in the next 10 years. A growing after market services and support industry will soon surface. While India represents many opportunities for growth and productivity, deep partnerships in manufacturing, engineering, research and technology are emerging to help Indian Aerospace and Security industry build necessary infrastructure and sustain global leadership in aerospace.
The government is playing a significant role in shaping the offset policy to build aerospace muscle in manufacturing and engineering infrastructure needed for this industry. OEMs are also encouraged to partner with public and private industry and share best practices, infrastructure solutions, program management skills.
Today, Lockheed, Boeing, Rockwell Collins, Raytheon and other US companies as well as many European companies have become significant players in India. In this panel we discuss the opportunities and challenges uncovered by this massive shift of priorities and the role IIT alumni may play in its continuing evolution. IIT alumni could contribute both technological and leadership as well as entrepreneurial expertise to develop this nascent industry infrastructure development.
