Electronic Medical Records - Challenges & Opportunities

 By universal agreement, Electronic Health Records are an essential component of meaningful healthcare reform, contributin to improved access to care, reduced costs, and enhanced patient safety.  Key issues that must be addressed before Electronic Health Records reach their full potential are:

• Interoperable and secure standards for implementing EHRs and exchanging health information between organizations;
• Training a work force capable of installing and sustaining this new technology for the healthcare community;
• Recognition that different states and urban centers will have their own unique requirements for health information exchange; and
• Innovation in how our citizens receive their essential medical services. 

This panel will address how implementation and innovation linked to Electronic Health Records cannot be achieved without the proactive collaboration of government health IT policy makers, integrators, and the vendor community.  The roles, challenges, and opportunities for each communicty to make health information technology a transformation agent throughout the continuum of care will be addressed by senior decision makers from the public and private sector.
